As the meaning of masculinity constantly evolves, so does our relentless pursuit for the magical state of trance that comes with consuming large amounts of liquor, or as Wiz Khalifa so eloquently puts it “getting turnt”. Remember all the times you were out with a group of friends and you watched your girl friends sip on their amazing looking drinks while you sadly stroked your disgusting pint of Tuborg and looked wistfully at the ground? Those days are no more. In today’s day and age, it’s completely acceptable for men to order drinks that a only few years ago, would cause their sexuality to come into question.
Sure, cocktails taste great. Their true gift, however, lies not in consuming them, but in being able to prepare them for others, be it your guy friends, or a beautiful lady you happen to have over at your place. If you can masterfully prepare and serve a cocktail with the questionable sexuality and flair of a young Tom Cruise, trust me, she’ll be all over you in no time. Here are a few of the manliest cocktails on the market. They’re easy to prepare and so worth the effort.
Old Fashioned
- 1 sugar cube
- 3 dashes of Angostura bitters
- 1 tablespoon of club soda
- 2 pegs of bourbon whiskey
- 1 strip of lemon peel
Ah, the Old Fashioned. Making a comeback primarily because of the amazing Mad Men, the Old Fashioned is a classic Men’s drink. If you can’t find Angostura bitters or don’t know what they are, you can make this drink without them, it’s still pretty great, though not that much of a cocktail anymore. Remember that this a strong drink, and after a couple you’ll have enough confidence to put on a suit and cheat on your wife, much like Don Draper himself.
Whiskey Smash
- 1/2 tablespoon of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of water
- 2 pegs of bourbon whiskey
- 2 sprigs of mint
The Whiskey Smash is basically a Mojito but with whiskey instead of white rum (count me in). Plus, it’s hard not to sound like a badass when ordering a drink with the word ‘smash’ in it.
The Boilermaker
- A glass of your favourite beer
- A shot of your favourite whiskey
Loved by homeless people and makers of bad choices everywhere, The Boilermaker is the quintessential degenerate’s drink. Sometimes as a man you just need to unwind, and there’s no better way to do that then dropping a shot glass of your favourite whiskey into a larger glass filled with your favourite beer, and seeing where the night takes you.
